Meet the HWC Family

Meet Josh, Jessie and Isaiah, the owners of Highwater Camp

Who are we? In order to hash this out without speaking in 3rd person, I am Josh, the one writing this and trying to create this website (yeah, 1st time). That is my family over there. The 3 Amigos. The Fam. The Team. We are the Darts. We are outdoor adventure people and especially river people. Jessie, has been my better half for over 20 years and has been an amazing wife, mother, friend and partner in life. She has helped raise our newly adult child into an amazing young man. Isaiah is currently a senior in HS and is still planning his future. He is an ambitious and adventurous kid, a CAP member and has been working on becoming a pilot since he was 12. To say we are proud parents is an understatement. I was born in Oklahoma and lived in Missouri and Kansas growing up until I joined the service back in the late 1900’s (ha). I am a combat veteran and spent 8 years in the Marine Corps infantry which led me into moving out west just out of high school. I became a full time career firefighter after leaving the military and currently live in Nevada. I look forward to getting back to my OK roots one day, however, I still have a few years left before I can retire. The idea of Highwater Camp began with the dream of owning a home on a river where our family could hang out, enjoy the outdoors and start a small little farm or ranch. My parents, siblings and much of my large extended family live within a short drive of Highwater Camp. Ultimately, they are the ones who care for this place in our absence. It truly is a family operation. We couldn’t manage it otherwise. Its new to us, purchased in November 2021. After much consideration, we decided to start a business by offering up just a few campsites and kayak rentals to see how that goes. We spent the first year or so, fixing the place up, dealing with some flood damage in 2022, clearing vegetation and hoped we could scrape up just enough money to officially start a small business. We were able to host our family reunion here in 2023 but realized that many improvements were still needed and that we needed to continue to wait and save. As soon as our budget allows, we are planning to build a restroom facility with showers, add a few RV sites, a pavilion, possibly an event barn and offer a few unique things that will help us to stand out in the future. For now though, we are just keeping it simple. Enjoy the river and nature. After a bunch of phone calls and paperwork, In September of 2023 Highwater Camp LLC was officially born and this year (Jan 2024) we were granted our first river operator permits by GRDA. I have never owned or operated a ranch or a campground or any other business, so this is another first. Its a work in progress. Give us some time and watch it grow and improve. We appreciate your grace in this endeavor as we learn to build the business into a product that will meet or exceed your expectations. Thanks for your patience.
